The UAI is a clustered farming operation with both horizontal and vertical aggregation. Cluster farming is the coming together of agricultural growers in an area to form a cluster so as to synergistically enjoy one economic benefit or collectively share a burden.
Benefits of farming clusters are:
- sharing in recent and expensive research and agricultural technology;
- access to cheap farming inputs;
- marketing and distribution chain; and
- extension business support services.
The UAI seeks to develop several specialised products and multiple product farming operations utilising several key agricultural technologies and inner-city spaces, with a commitment to local food systems, community development and employment creation.
