Welcome to Urban Agriculture Africa News

At Urban Agriculture Africa News, we believe that the future of food in Africa begins in our cities. This website was created to shine a light on the quiet revolution happening in urban spaces across the continent — where rooftops become farms, vacant lots turn into community gardens, and innovative farmers are feeding their neighborhoods with sustainability at their core.

What We Do

We deliver timely, accurate, and insightful news on urban farming and agriculture across Africa. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and connect those who are reimagining food production in dense urban environments — from small-scale gardeners to policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

  • Community-led farming initiatives and cooperative models
  • Innovative technologies and low-cost farming methods
  • Policy developments and government support programs

  • Education, training, and youth engagement in urban farming

About the Creator

I’m Elara Whitfield, a South African journalist and urban agriculture advocate with over a decade of experience covering environmental and food systems change. Growing up in Johannesburg, I saw how neighborhoods transformed unused land into thriving food sources — not out of luxury, but out of necessity and resilience. That inspired me to create this platform — not just to report on urban farming, but to celebrate it.

Why This Website Exists

Urban agriculture in Africa is often overlooked by mainstream media, yet it feeds millions and builds climate resilience. I founded Urban Agriculture Africa News because I believe these stories deserve space — not as side notes, but as central narratives in Africa’s food future. This is more than news; it’s a movement, and we’re here to document it with integrity.

Our Values

We prioritize accuracy, local voices, and solutions-focused reporting. Every article is researched with care, grounded in real experiences, and written to empower readers — whether you’re a farmer in Soweto, a student in Accra, or a policymaker in Cape Town. We don’t chase clicks. We chase impact.
